Baked French Toast

Looking for a new French Toast recipe to liven up your everyday fare? Andy and I made this lovely dish together and man was it good. I managed to sneak one picture in before it was all devoured. Mrs. Joy of Cooking herself was the contributor today.

Honey Bun French Toast
Ingredients:
6 slices day old bread (we used Ezekiel 4:9 cinnamon raisin bread, but I bet French or Challah would've been delightful!)
4 eggs
2/3 cup orange juice
Allspice
Cinnamon
Salt
3 tbs. honey
4 tbs. butter
1 cup chopped pecans

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2. Put the butter and honey in the bottom of a 9x13" pan.
3. Put in the oven and let melt but don't let it color at all (watch closely)...took less than 5 minutes for us.
4. When the butter has melted and the honey is thinner and bubbling, take out and mix around with a fork.
5. Spread the chopped pecans out over the top.
6. Meanwhile, mix the eggs, OJ, allspice, cinnamon and salt in a bowl.
7. Dip the bread in the egg mixture, making sure to coat and soak each piece really well.
8. Place the soaked bread on top of the pecans.
9. Put in the oven for 15-20 minutes. We did the full 20.
10. Use a spatula to get a piece out of the pan, flip it over and DIG IN! It really didn't need any syrup, but we had real maple syrup out just in case.

This was fast, easy and really yummy.

**NOTE: It's so tempting to eat this right away, but let it set up in the pan for 5 minutes BEFORE you dig in. You'll thank me later!!
